C3D Collision Detection

All assemblies made of parts in CAD models should be free of collisions, a form of unwanted design error.

With our Collision Detector, your CAD and BIM applications check assemblies for collisions, even at early stages, to ensure designs are free of errors. Collisions are identified as areas of contact and volumes of overlap. Early detection of collisions reduces costs during later design phases and especially when it comes to constructing physical products.

The C3D geometric kernel provides two methods to evaluate solid body collisions:

  • The first method is based on Boolean operation algorithms and designed for accurate evaluation of the intersection of two fixed bodies and calculation of the intersection face edges.

  • The second method is based on polygonal models and designed for dynamic scenes defined by a given set of bodies. It is recommended to use the second method if it is required to execute many evaluations for collisions of moving solid bodies in real time.
