How C3D Toolkit Enhanced the New Release of KOMPAS-3D

ASCON recently shipped a new version of its KOMPAS-3D mechanical design CAD program. For us at C3D Labs, it is a significant product. For many years now, KOMPAS-3D has been one of the most important projects which provides our team with engineering tasks.

KOMPAS-3D v21 was developed by ASCON following its roadmap, according to which 75% of new features are based on user requests. Areas in which the new version is improved include 3D modeling, drawing preparation and specifications, sheet metal and surface modeling, and data exchange with other CAD systems. It has also improved design applications in various disciplines. In total, version 21 contains more than 100 changes and improvements. Let’s take a look at the ones that are the result of our C3D Toolkit.

Improvements to surface modeling with the C3D Modeler geometric kernel module:

  • New methods for constructing ruled surfaces

Improvements to imports with the C3D Converter data exchange module:

  • Imports models in OBJ format
  • Imports faceted polygonal objects in STL, JT, and OBJ formats
  • Reads model attributes from JT files

Improvements to 3D constraints with the C3D Solver constraint solver module:

  • Allow a range of distances in constraints between objects
