Final Agenda for C3D Labs Customer Meeting

ASCON invites CAD developers and representatives of educational institutions and commercial firms to its inaugural seminar dedicated to its C3D geometric kernel. The half-day C3D Labs Customer Meeting takes place Thursday, 30 May, 2013 at the New Peterhof Hotel in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The opening address is "C3D’s Path to the Kernel Market" and will be presented by special guest, C3D Labs consultant Dr. Ken Versprille.

After the early battles between ACIS and Parasolid, the market for 3D geometric kernel software has for the last few years been relatively quiet as CAD vendors are disinclined to switch kernels. The recent release of CGM (Dassault Systèmes’ kernel for CATIA V5) to the market has the potential to spark renewed excitement, as does the C3D kernel from ASCON. Gaining market share against the established players will, however, be difficult. Dr. Versprille will discuss the current market landscape and offer his thoughts on one aspect of C3D’s capabilities.

In advance of his visit to Russia, the isicad portal recorded an extensive interview with Dr. Versprille, which is available at isicad.net/articles.php?article_num=16045.

Following the opening address, C3D Product Director Oleg Zykov will present the history of the C3D kernel and the team that developed it. He will describe ACON’s policy for licensing C3D components, especially the special terms for educational establishments.

C3D development team leader Nikolai Golovanov will describe the C3D kernel’s architecture and the capabilities of its primary modules.

Additional speakers will give an account of product innovations of C3D V14 and share their plans for the kernel’s future. Special attention will be given to the convenience for users working with C3D, as well as the documentation and level of technical support.

After the break, customers already using C3D will describe their experiences with the kernel, including LO CNITI and Bazis-Center of Russia. Andrey Lovygin will present ESPRIT Extra CAD software, the first product based on C3D outside of ASCON’s development units. Pavel Bunakov will relate how the geometry kernel is being applied to the CAD engine powering BAZIS cabinet furniture design software.

Concluding the seminar are members of our engineering partners. Fabien Chauviré from the French company Redway3d will speak about the integrating the RedSDK visualisation platform with C3D. Alexey Ershov from LEDAS will describe his company's services in integrating and developing applications based on C3D. Sergey Koshevoy from Rubius will talk about his experience in working with ASCON successfully.

Time will be given at the end of the seminar for discussion, questions, and answers.

All those attending the seminar will receive as a gift the book Geometric Modelling autographed by the author, the head of C3D development Nikolai Golovanov.

Participation in the seminar is free of charge; however, prior registration is required.

This seminar will be held between two major CAD events that are both being held at New Peterhof Hotel in Saint Petersburg, ASCON’s “CAD White Nights” Forum (28-29 May) and COFES Russia’s congress on the future of engineering software (30 May to 1 June). Plan to take part in all three exciting events.

See you soon at the Peterhof!
